Big Brothers Big Sisters Full Moon 5K is Sept. 21

CHARLES CITY — Support youth mentoring by running in the Full Moon 5K on Friday, Sept. 21. This fundraiser for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northeast Iowa begins at 7 p.m. at Wildwood Golf Course, where it also ends. Runners and walkers of all levels are invited. Registration includes chip-timing, dri-fit T-shirt, glow gear, swag bag, and refreshments. Comet football falls 7-6 in Cresco; plus scores from around the state

CRESCO — Crestwood defeated Charles City by one extra point kick Friday night in Cresco, 7-6. The Cadets and Comets played in heavy rain, which contributed to multiple fumbles throughout the game. The first half was scoreless. Crestwood scored first in the second half on a run that ended with the Cadets recovering their own fumble in the end zone. The extra point kick narrowly fluttered through the cross bars. Charles City answered when Marcus Cranshaw sprinted around the left side for a 14-yard touchdown run. Micro-brewery under construction across from courthouse

CHARLES CITY — Cory and Lanie Sanvig are planning to open a micro-brewery in October across South Main Street from the Floyd County Courthouse. Part of that plan involves some help from the Charles City Community Revitalization Facade Improvement Program. The Charles City Council will consider the Sanvigs’ application for $9,540 from the facade program. The Sanvigs estimate the project will cost $19,080. The building at 100 S. Next phase of Rockford streetlight project begins Friday, Aug. 10

ROCKFORD — The city of Rockford announced this week that the next phase of the Rockford Street Light Project begins Friday, Aug. 10. Four feet of sidewalk on the 100 block of West Main (both north and south sides) will be torn out and replaced. Matching antique light poles will be installed.
