Good morning, it’s Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023.


Between 2 and 4 inches of snow is expected to fall overnight as an east wind gusts at around 30 mph. Otherwise, today will be cloudy and breezy with a high near 34. The east wind of 9 to 17 mph will gust at times. There is a 50% chance of snow and rain around 4 p.m., with the likelihood growing to 100% later in the evening. The night’s low will be around 29.

Boys basketball

Hudson 42, Oelwein 42: The Huskies lost their second in a row, falling to 6-7. The Pirates are on a four-game winning streak and are now 9-4.

Wapsie Valley 68, Union 53: The Warriors improved to 12-1. They have not lost to Union since 2016.

Jesup 68, Sumner-Fredericksburg 44: Jack Miller scored 23 and pulled in seven rebounds to lead the J-Hawks to win no 7.

Central Elkader 53, West Union 33: Brooks Ingels led all scorers with 12 points, but was the only West Central player to reach double digits. Two Central Elkader players reached 10 points apiece.

North Fayette Valley 56, Kee 48: Cael Reichter led the TigerHawks in scoring with 14 points, followed by Kyler White and Peyton Loftsgard with 10 apiece.

Girls basketball

Sumner-Fredericksburg 63, Jesup 54: Isabelle Elliot scored 29 points and grabbed 22 rebounds to lead the Cougars past the J-Hawks. S-F is now

Hudson 60, Oelwein 37: The Huskies are mired in a four-game losing streak and are now 7-6.

Union 38, Wapsie Valley 28: Union snapped a three-game losing streak against the Warriors. The Knights improved to 3-11 as Wapsie Valley fell to 5-10.

Central Elkader 75, West Central 27: Abby Squires scored 12 points for the Blue Devils, but the host Warrior remained undefeated at 13-0. West Central is now 4-9.

North Fayette Valley 72, Kee 32: Makenna Grove scored 16 and pulled in 11 rebounds to lead the TigerHawks over the Kee Hawks. Also scoring in double digits for NFV were Loleta Ryan with 14 and Kaelyn Elsbernd with 10.
