Pratt, Franzen honored by conference

Nashua-Plainfield junior Jalynn Pratt was named to the Top of Iowa-East all-conference second team. N-P sophomore Paige Franzen received honorable mention. Pratt batted .265 this season while driving in 11 runs and scoring 7. She hit 11 singles, five doubles and two triples. She led the team with nine stolen bases and a .952 fielding percentage as third baseman. Franzen had a .280 batting average and hit 10 singles and four doubles. She drove in 11 runs and scored 6. Charles City is the only undefeated high school softball team left in the state. Visiting Collins-Maxwell handed Clarksville its first loss of the season, 1-0. The Indians were 22-0 going into the night. The Comets won two in Oelwein to better its record to 28-0. Where they are now: Mara Forsyth powers Wartburg softball offense

WAVERLY, Iowa — Charles City graduate Mara Forsyth is more than a cornerstone of Wartburg College softball team’s offense. More accurately, she is the keystone. The junior infielder leads the 17-11 Knights in batting average among all players with more than two at-bats. In 28 games and 87 at-bats so far this season, Forsyth is batting .414. She leads in runs scored (32 of the team’s 179), runs batted in (43 of the team’s 153), home runs (10), and slugging percentage (.874). Forsyth is well on her way to eclipsing her sophomore season. Sign up for CC Girls’ City League Softball by April 12

CHARLES CITY — The deadline is coming up quickly to sign up girls to play in this year’s City League. Applications need to be turned in no later than April 12 to Stock Glass/Graphic Gallery in Charles City. It’s next to Subway across the street from the courthouse.  The $15 registration fee must be turned in with the application. Applications are available at Charles City schools and Stock Glass/Graphic Gallery. Practices might begin the week of May 7, according to the application.
