Huskies squeeze out win over A-P

Nashua-Plainfield’s knack for getting out of jams seemed to be expiring. The Huskies entered the top of the 7th at Stan Burkle Field Tuesday evening with a 4-0 lead. Reliever Nic Brase returned to the mound after extinguishing a Falcon threat in the 6th, preserving starter Eli Kalainoff’s shutout. After getting the lead-off batter to fly out to left, everything went awry. A single, an infield error, a pitch in the dirt bouncing off the catcher’s mask and a base on balls put A-P in position to tie the game. With two outs, the Falcons tried to steal home. They … Continue reading Huskies squeeze out win over A-P

Friday’s rout of the War Hawks (1-6, 2-9) puts the Huskies (7-1, 8-3) firmly in the race for the Top of Iowa-East title, just behind first-place Newman Catholic (7-0, 16-1). The Knights beat third-place Saint … Continue reading N-P baseball snaps losing streak

Franzen foils, Kalainoff blasts Green Devils

Down by 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd, Nashua-Plainfield had a runner on base and needed something to pop. That’s when Eli Kalainoff stepped up to the plate. Statistically he was just the right guy to drive in the tying run. Through the first six games of the season, the freshman outfielder was batting .529 with seven singles, two doubles and 6 RBIs. Turns out he had a bit more to offer. Kalainoff unleashed a 2-run home run to put N-P in the lead. The round-tripper was the first of his varsity career, and it came off the … Continue reading Franzen foils, Kalainoff blasts Green Devils
