Rinkens bring home two state wrestling championships, 3 others place

Nashua-Plainfield is home to two 2023 Class 1A state champions. Senior Garret Rinken completed an undefeated season, 51-0, by beating Wapsie Valley senior Dawson Schmit (40-8) by a 4-1 decision in the 126-pound championship match on Saturday at the State Traditional Wrestling Tournament in Des Moines. His younger brother, sophomore Jayden Rinken (47-2), defeated Wilton freshman Mason Shirk (47-4) by an 8-2 decision in the 106-pound championship match. The Rinkens were two of the 13 N-P wrestlers that competed this year in the tournament at Wells Fargo Arena. Competition began Wednesday and wrapped up Saturday night. First round matchups announced for N-P wrestlers at State

Thirteen Nashua-Plainfield wrestlers will begin their pursuit of state championships on Wednesday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The Class 1A first round begins at 9 a.m. Here are their opening matches: Sophomore Jayden Rinken (43-2), seeded no. 1 at 106, gets a bye in the first round. He then will take on no. 17 Kanaan Delagardelle (21-12), a sophomore at Don Bosco or no. 16 Caleb Wisecup (30-10), a junior from Ogden.
