Charles City boys and girls win home golf meet

CHARLES CITY — Jackson Molstead and Abby Milligan led the Comets boys and girls teams to first-place finishes Tuesday on their home course. Milligan won medalist status by shooting a 49 on Cedar Ridge Golf Course’s back 9. Teammate Gen Wandro was the runner-up with a 50. The girls team standings were 1. Charles City, 213; 2. Where they are now: Mara Forsyth powers Wartburg softball offense

WAVERLY, Iowa — Charles City graduate Mara Forsyth is more than a cornerstone of Wartburg College softball team’s offense. More accurately, she is the keystone. The junior infielder leads the 17-11 Knights in batting average among all players with more than two at-bats. In 28 games and 87 at-bats so far this season, Forsyth is batting .414. She leads in runs scored (32 of the team’s 179), runs batted in (43 of the team’s 153), home runs (10), and slugging percentage (.874). Forsyth is well on her way to eclipsing her sophomore season. GOLF: N-P’s boys and girls take second

SHEFFIELD, Iowa — The Nashua-Plainfield boys and girls golf teams each placed second Thursday, April 13, at Ridge Stone Golf Club in Sheffield. The Osage boys shot 172 to take first over the Huskies at 206. West Fork fielded only three golfers, not enough to record a team score. Drew Olson of Osage was the medalist shooting a 41. The runner-up was Ben Grimm with a 42. Junior Dillon Auchstetter carded a 43, the top game for the Huskies. Osage’s girls placed first with 226. Hurdling in the halls

CHARLES CITY — Just because it’s wet and cold outside doesn’t mean Comets are going to ditch track practice. The Charles City High School girls and their coach, Darren Bohlen, improvised by setting up up hurdles in the hallway outside the principal’s office. Without the markings that are on the Comet Stadium track, they used a tape measure to get the right distance between hurdles. The team’s next competition is Monday, April 3, in Osage. CC boys track team collects titles at Luther College

DECORAH — The Charles City High School boys track team collected a few championships and personal bests Tuesday at Luther College.Brandon Bluhm in long jump and Adam Stewart in the 200M dash each returned as Northeast Iowa Conference Indoor Meet champs. Bluhm won long jump with a 20-01.25 in the finals. Stewart won the 200M dash with a 25.10 in the finals.  Gavin Connell beat his personal best by nearly 5 seconds in the mile. CC girls track brings home indoor titles

DECORAH — The Charles City girls track and field team earned early season accolades Tuesday at Luther College. Katie Foster, Sara Martin,Tayler Schmidt, Sami Heyer and Whitney Martin returned from Decorah with indoor championships in their respective events. Foster placed first in the 200M dash with a finals time of 26.76. She was also a member Charles City’s 1600M distance medley relay team with Tayler Schmidt, Sami Heyer, and Whitney Martin that took first with a finals time of 4:36.37.
