Postville man charged in infant daughter’s death

News release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office After an 11-month investigation by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance from Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), State and county medical examiner’s office and the Fayette County Attorney’s Office, criminal charges were filed on Joshua Rueben Christen, 33, of Postville for child endangerment causing death, a Class B felony, of his 4-month-old daughter.  On Sept. 2, 2022, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office along with the Elgin Ambulance service responded to a residence on 245th Street North of Elgin for 4-month-old female unresponsive and not breathing. NE Iowa joint investigation leads to 3 more drug arrests

Fayette County authorities investigating a Northeast Iowa drug ring arrested three more people on Wednesday when they searched a West Union store. Sixteen arrests have now accompanied 11 search warrants in just more than a week, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday, July 19, the West Union Police and the Sheriff’s Office, which have conducted a joint investigation into the ring, searched the entire Family Dollar/Dollar Tree store at 107 E Main Street and two vehicles on the property. Iowa DNR News Release The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for help with its annual wild turkey production survey.  During the months of July and August wild turkey sightings are recorded to estimate this year’s nesting rates and nest success.  Participation is easy – just note the date and county in which the turkey was seen, if it was an adult female or adult male – males have beards on their breast – and if and how many poults (baby turkeys) were present. Saturday’s scheduled playoff opener between Clayton Ridge (5-23) and Oelwein (10-19) was postponed. The Eagles and the Huskies will play the Class 2A Substate 3 District 5 game at 5 p.m. Monday, July 3, at Starmont High School in Arlington. DNR issues air quality advisory through Wednesday

IOWA DNR NEWS RELEASE DES MOINES — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has issued an air quality advisory for the entire state with the worst air quality expected in the eastern third of Iowa. Eastern Iowa is currently recording fine particulates at concentrations the EPA considers unhealthy. At this level sensitive groups of people, as well as the general public, may experience health effects. Fine particulate levels near or above EPA health standards are expected to increase throughout the day and persist in these areas through tomorrow. Pair arrested on drug charges in West Union

Authorities arrested two people after allegedly finding cash and illegal drugs in a West Union apartment. According to a Fayette County Sheriff’s Office news release, at about 10:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 7, sheriff’s personnel, West Union Police and the Iowa State Patrol executed a search warrant at 116.5 S Vine St. Apt 4, West Union.   Armed standoff in Maynard ends peacefully On June 4, Fayette County Communications received a report of a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Palace Rd and Hwy 3. It was reported that a silver pickup struck fixtures along the roadway and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was later located at a residence in the city of Maynard.
