ALTA VISTA — St. Bernard’s Church will host its St. Patrick’s Supper from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, March 18, in the Alta Vista Municipal Hall. The menu includes grilled pork chops, dressing, green beans, potatoes and gravy, cole slaw, rolls and pie. The cost is $10 in advance or $11 at the door for adults and children. Smith/Winterink Building listed among ‘Most Endangered Properties’ in Iowa

CHARLES CITY – Reporter Thomas Nelson collected the lone first-place award for the Charles City Press in the 2018 Iowa Newspaper Association Better Newspaper Contest, under the leadership of publisher Chris Hall and editor Bob Steenson, who notched one third place individual effort. Extension news release Floyd County will offer the Commercial Ag Weed, Insect and Plant Disease Management Continuing Instruction Course (CIC) for commercial pesticide applicators Tuesday, February 13, 2018. Jan. 13 benefit to help 20-year-old after heart surgery

CLARKSVILLE — A benefit on Saturday, Jan.13 at a Clarksville tavern aims to help a 20-year-old man as he recovers from heart surgery. Grady Wayne of Clarksville, son of Gena Gallmeyer, had open heart surgery on Oct. 30 to fix several issues with his heart, according to event notices posted online. City plans wintertime demolition of Charley Western Trail Bridge

CHARLES CITY — City leaders are working toward demolishing the crumbling Charley Western Trail Bridge this winter, while the wood turtles are hibernating.
