CHARLES CITY – If you can’t find something to do in and around Charles City this weekend, you’re not looking very hard. That’s because there is a full slate of activities for all ages, both indoors and out, set for Jan. 26-28 during Cabin Fever Weekend. Coordinated by the Charles City Area Chamber of Commerce, the weekend of fun and fellowship with others is intended to help break up those post-holiday winter doldrums.
Whether you prefer cross-country skiing, roller skating, sledding, playing games or stitching, Cabin Fever Weekend is sure to have just the thing for you! A late addition is a free Kids Ice Fishing Clinic to be offered Saturday, January 27th, from 10 a.m. to Noon at Sunset Park in Charles City as part of the Cabin Fever Weekend fun. Sponsored by Rapids End Outfitters, the clinic will be held on the frozen river near the Pedestrian Bridge. Dress for the weather and bring your own fishing pole if you have one. Otherwise a limited number of poles and bait for everyone will be provided.
If you’d like to support the Charles City Community Fund, you can head to the Comet Bowl on Saturday, February 27th for their annual 9-pin bowling tournament. This will begin at 3:30 p.m. and costs $25 per person or $100 for a team of four. Features of the event include a 50/50 raffle and a basket prize. Pre-registration is required for this event; please contact Mike McCarty at (641) 220-3080 to do so.
In addition, the new Bread of Life Market at 809 Wisconsin St. will be celebrating its grand opening that Friday and Saturday with free coffee, hot chocolate and cookies for Cabin Fever participants who come in.
A full schedule of activities is available at www.charlescitychamber.com. Cabin Fever Weekend offers a great opportunity to get out of the house and try something different! The Chamber challenges you to find at least one thing each day and do it!
