CHARLES CITY — An arrest warrant has been issued in a fatal shooting Friday night for a 36-year-old man who is nearly 7 feet tall and was released on his own recognizance in May in a third-degree theft case. Antoine Williams is 6 feet, 7 inches tall, weighs 250 pounds and black. He’s considered armed and dangerous, a Facebook post from the Charles City Police says. News release from the Charles City Fire Department: CHARLES CITY – The Charles City Fire Department (CCFD) responded to a report of a house fire at 902 E St. The fire was reported by a neighbor via 911, and the CCFD was dispatched at 10:43 on Wednesday morning. On arrival, firefighters reported smoke coming from the exterior roof vents of the residence. CHARLES CITY — A beverage garden will be in the alley behind Dean Jewelers and Radio Shack when RAGBRAI bicycle riders spend the night in Charles City on Wednesday, July 26, according to a proposal being presented at Monday’s Charles City Council meeting. The Charles City Police Department has posted this news release: Because the high fatality rate over recent Fourth of July holidays there will be additional law enforcement on Iowa’s roads as well as the entire nation. CHARLES CITY — The demise of the Charley Western Trailway bridge over the Cedar River is rerouting this year’s Firecracker 5 race. City staff recommend approving changes presented last week by Community Development Director Mark Wicks. The new route will require closure of Owen and Jung Streets as well as Salsbury from Clark to Owen from 7-9 a.m. July 4. There are two races scheduled. One is 5 miles and the other is a 5K. CHARLES CITY — A turtle species that’s endangered in Iowa might be hanging out by the crumbling Charley Western Trailway bridge. So, before demolishing the span, the city needs to know for certain whether wood turtles frequent the area. CHARLES CITY –-Convicted sex offender and former Floyd County magistrate Doug Lindemann, 61, is out of prison and free on bond. On the same day a Floyd County District Court judge scheduled Lindaman’s retrial on a third-degree sexual abuse charge for Aug. 1, Lindaman was returned to Floyd County where he made bond. Lindaman, who previously served prison time in the 1980s on two convictions of lascivious acts with a minor, was convicted in April 2016 by a Floyd County jury on the count of third-degree sexual abuse. CHARLES CITY — Run or walk June 10 to help homeless pets in the Charles City area. The annual PAWS Cedar Dog Jog returns at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10. According to the registration website, the price to run or walk the 5K route that begins in Riverside Park is $30 for an adult and $20 for children 15 years old or younger.
