Charles City AM Update (May 19): Of State Track, orchestra and a bond referendum

Comets compete at State Track

Charles City junior Keely Collins took 5th in the Class 3A girls high jump on Thursday at the Iowa High School Track & Field Championships by clearing 5 feet, 4 inches.

Junior Josiah Cunnings ran a personal best time of 51.88 seconds in the boys 400m dash to place 18th.

Senior Nakila Toney and Cunnings also competed but did not place in high jump.

After three years with Charles City Community Schools, grades 5-12 orchestra director Sam Naumann is moving on. He conducted this year’s Wire Choir finale on Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Students must audition each year to join the Wire Choir.



CC School Board to learn more about a bond referendum and finances

The Charles City School Board will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, in the high school library to hear a report about district finances as they pertain to a bond referendum

On May 8, the School Board approved language for a one-question petition to authorize a bond referendum for
high school facilities and an auditorium project. The approved petition says:
“Shall the Board of Directors of the Charles City Community School District in the Counties of Chickasaw and Floyd, State of Iowa, be authorized to contract indebtedness and issue General Obligation Bonds in an amount not to exceed $28,500,000 to provide funds to: 1) renovate, remodel, repair, improve, expand, furnish and equip portions of the existing High School Building, including, HVAC and electrical systems, security systems, classrooms, offices, gymnasium spaces, common areas, and site improvements; and 2) construct an auditorium addition to the High School Building?”
