STRAY VOLTAGE TRIAL
The jury began deliberations on Friday in the Vagts Dairy lawsuit against Northern Natural Gas in Fayette County District Court. The West Union dairy claims stray voltage from a system protecting a gas pipeline from corrosion has hurt milk production and led to cow deaths. Vagts is seeking more than $3 million in damages.
STATE BOUND WRESTLERS
Oelwein sophomore Ryley Hartman (31-9) is the Region 7 champion of the 110-pound weight class.
Sumner-Fredericksburg junior Hillary Trainor (39-4) is the 105 champion in Region 8.
They are among the area girls to qualify for the State Wrestling Tournament that will be Feb. 2-3 at Xtreme Arena in Coralville. The top 4 from each weight class at regional tournaments across Iowa qualified. Regions 7 and 8 had their tournaments on Friday at Luther College in Decorah. (Read more)
FROM HAIR SALON TO APARTMENT
The owner of a house next to the Oelwein Public Library wants to replace a ground floor hair salon with an apartment. The change would make the house entirely multi-family housing. The Oelwein Board of Adjustment will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m. tonight at City Hall for Mike Lewis’s request regarding 215 Charles.

VEHICULAR HOMICIDE TRIAL SET
A West Union man accused of causing the death of a passenger last fall when he crashed the BMW Mini Cooper he was driving while fleeing law enforcement will go on trial in March.
Curtis Allen Williams, 38, is charged in Chickasaw County District Court with vehicular homicide (Class B felony), attempting to elude while operating while intoxicated (Class D felony), first-offense OWI (serious misdemeanor) and driving while suspended or revoked (serious misdemeanor). (Read more)
