Storm forces I-35 closure
I-35 closed from Ames to Clear Lake — “Road conditions have become extremely hazardous in northern portions of the state making travel in some areas impossible. The Iowa DOT has closed both directions of travel on I-35 at Exit 111 (US 30) in Ames to Exit 194 (US 18) at Clear Lake. It is anticipated I-35 will be closed until sometime Saturday morning,” says the 511ia.org website.
No movies in CC tonight
Due to the weather, The Charles Theatre will remain closed tonight. It will reopen Christmas night with a 7 p.m. show, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Doors open at 6:15
Fareway closing at 6 p.m.
The Charles City Fareway Store announced that it is closing at 6 p.m. because of the extreme weather.
The store is scheduled to be open until 5 p.m. on Saturday, Christmas Eve.
Chickasaw County and State plows pulled off the road
The Chickasaw County Sheriff issued this update at noon: “Both Chickasaw County and State DOT road crews have been pulled off the roads per the Chickasaw County Engineer and State DOT area Supervisor. The State DOT plans to come back out at 2 p.m. today, 12/23/22, and work until dark. Both County and State road crews plan on being back out on 12/24/22 and 12/25/22. We do not know when and for how long the road crews will be out on 12/24-12/25, but that is what is planned as of now.”
No trash pickup today
Jendro Sanitation shut down all operations ahead of this storm. Routes will not be made up due to the weather and it being a holiday weekend. Trash and/or recycling will not be collected again until your next scheduled collection date. You will be allowed to set out “extra” trash and recycling on your next collection date without penalty.
Library closed until Dec. 27
The Nashua Public Library is closed for the holidays. It will reopen Tuesday, Dec. 27.
First State Bank of Nashua closing at 3 p.m.
First State Bank announced that it will be closing at 3 p.m. today.
Its annual holiday open house will be held Friday, Dec. 30. It originally had been scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 22.
It will also be closed on Saturday (Christmas Eve) with no drive-up and Monday. It will resume normal hours Tuesday, Dec. 27.
Help will take a while if your vehicle gets stuck traveling
The Chickasaw County Sheriff issued this statement at 9 a.m. today about road conditions: “Chickasaw County and State DOT road crews are out working hard and doing the best they can to keep the roads open. However, they can not keep up with the blowing snow. Our dispatch center has taken multiple calls of vehicles stuck in snow drifts already this morning. Please be safe if you must be out on the roads. if you get stuck, it might be a while before assistance can get to you. Be prepared, especially with these dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills.”
