ACKLEY — The Huskies had cause to be concerned early in Friday night’s game.
Although the Nashua-Plainfield offense drove 65 yards on its first possession of the game for a Titus Evans rushing touchdown, it failed on its 2-point conversion attempt. AGWSR answered with a 75-yard drive capped off with a Kaden Abbas touchdown plunge and a successful 2-point conversion. The Cougars grabbed an 8-6 lead.
After exchanging punts, the Cougars were back on a long drive to the end zone, but the first of seven turnovers sent N-P surging. Joel Winters recovered the AGWSR fumble on the Huskies 26-yard line.
N-P turned that into a 74-yard scoring drive, with Aiden Gelner running for the touchdown from nine yards out. Quarterback Bo Harrington ran in the 2-point conversion.
That 14-8 lead grew into a 41-8 playoff-clinching victory. N-P improved to 5-2 overall and 3-2 in Class A, District 3. The loss knocks AGWSR (3-4, 2-4) out of the postseason.
Harrington completed six passes for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Trae Geise scored one from 35 yards out and Tucker Franzen from 10, his lone catch of the night.
Geise finished with 78 yards on four catches. Joel Winter had one catch for 17 yards.
Harrington also scored a rushing touchdown, breaking free for a 40-yard sprint. He finished with 76 yards on five carries.
Evans led all rushers with 115 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown. Gelner collected 73 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown, a 9-yard rush.
Gelner scored two 2-point conversions and Harrington had one.
The Huskies running game put up 292 yards on 39 carries. Others contributing to that total were Franzen (1 carry for 14 yards), Winters (2 for 7), Eli Kalainoff (1 for 6), and Navarii Williams (1 for 1). Hayden Munn had a carry, but for no gain.
Defensively, the Huskies snatched two interceptions Titus Evans scored a 32-yard touchdown on one, Geise grabbed the other.
N-P recovered four fumbles, one each by Jackson Carey, Kalainoff, Aiden Sullivan and Winters.
Carey led the Huskies in tackles with 9.5 total, 6 of which were solo. Tate White had 9 total, 6 solo followed by Aiden Lamborn (5, 4), Landon Pratt (4.5, 3), Winters (4, 1), Aiden Sullivan (4, 2), Geise (3.5, 3), Kalainoff (3.5, 1), Evans (3.5, 1), Kaden Wilken (3.5, 1), Harrington (2.5, 1), Franzen (1.5, 1), Isaac Jones (1.5, 1), Matthew Malven (1, 1), Devon Blanchard, (1, 1), Hayden Munn (1, 1), Jackson Zwanziger (1), O’Neill (0.5), Blaine Brannon (0.5), and Braeden Mitchell (0.5).
Lamborn and Winters each had a sack.
