A 41-year-old Charles City man awaiting trial on one count of second-degree sexual abuse is back in jail after allegedly violating his pre trial release for a second time.
Cory Lee Poyner is scheduled for trial Oct. 25, in Floyd County District Court. He is accused of sexually abusing a 10-year-old girl multiple times while living in her hom from November 2021 to January 2022.
Poyner’s first pretrial violation was reported by probation officials when he was out on bail that he posted April 8 in the abuse case. Charles City Police had found him sleeping in a vehicle in a city park on May 29, and say he was in possession of illegal drugs. After court action allowing it, a Charles City woman posted his bail this time on June 20.
Then in mid-August, Charles City Police arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop at Clark Street and Shaw Avenue. He was charged Aug. 18 with four Class D felony drug possession charges. He posted 10% of his $4,000 bail to get out of jail, but after failing to show up at his arraignment a bench warrant was issued.
He is in custody.
In the meantime, his defense attorney has filed resistance to prosecution’s motion to allow the alleged child sexual abuse victim to testify by closed circuit TV. A hearing on that is scheduled for Oct. 24
