Oelwein morning update (Thursday, Sept. 15)

Good morning, here is some Oelwein news you might want to know:

1. WEATHER — Today will be mostly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind 9 to 14 mph. Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 62. South wind 8 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. (Extended Forecast)

2. HOMECOMING PARADE TONIGHT — The Oelwein High School Parade through downtown begins at 7 p.m.

3. ON THE VOLLEYBALL LEADERBOARD — As of Wednesday, Oelwein volleyball junior Natalie Crandall leads the North Iowa Cedar League-East in successful serves with 237. Wapsie Valley senior Sydney Matthias is second with 188. The pair are also 1 and 2 in serve efficiency with Crandall hitting 93.7% and Matthias at 92.7%. (Leaderboard)

4. OWNING THE J-HAWKS — The Oelwein football team is hosting Jesup on Friday at 7 p.m. The Huskies have won the last three meetings (42-20 in 2021, 33-27 in 2019, and 40-27 in 2018). Both teams are 1-2 this season.

5. HOMECOMING TUG — The Oelwein High School staff on Wednesday defeated the senior class in the tug-of-war during Homecoming activities. Here is a pic posted by the school district:

6. OELWEIN COLISEUM BALLROOM — “There will be no Hootenanny this Friday the 16th. The place is being rented out for a couple events Saturday so they will getting ready on Friday.”
