Fayette County authorities investigating a Northeast Iowa drug ring arrested three more people on Wednesday when they searched a West Union store. Sixteen arrests have now accompanied 11 search warrants in just more than a week, according to a news release from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. On Wednesday, July 19, the West Union Police and the Sheriff’s Office, which have conducted a joint investigation into the ring, searched the entire Family Dollar/Dollar Tree store at 107 E Main Street and two vehicles on the property. Pipeline company seeks new trial in dairy farm stray voltage lawsuit

Northern Natural Gas claims there are multiple reasons it should get a new trial over the stray voltage lawsuit brought by a West Union dairy farm, including “unreliable expert testimony and impermissible legal theories.” A Fayette County jury ruled in January that the pipeline company created a nuisance that caused significant harm to Vagts Dairy Farm and awarded the family business $475 million in damages. Oelwein man charged with drug crimes

WEST UNION — Estaban Ricardo Carrasco Jr., 21, of Oelwein, is charged with four controlled substance violations. According to court documents, the Oelwein Police Department conducted controlled buys of illegal drugs on Aug. 7 and Aug. 16. Both times, Carrasco arrived in a red in Cadillac registered to his father. On Aug. 7, he allegedly delivered 1.018 grams of marijuana and 2.285 grams of cocaine. On Aug.16, he allegedly delivered 3.319 grams of cocaine and 9.985 grams of methamphetamine. Oelwein Police arrested Carrasco on Oct. 11 on a warrant. He made his initial court appearance on Oct. 12. Owner wins a year to fix decaying Oelwein downtown building

The owner of a deteriorated downtown building has 12 months to fix it, according to a court ruling issued Tuesday. Denying the city of Oelwein the authority to demolish the building at 27 S. Frederick, Magistrate Judge David James Hanson ruled that building owner Gary Wright needs to rehabilitate and restore the building to “habitable, usable condition.
