OELWEIN — The Charles city girls basketball team won its fifth game of the season Friday night, defeating Oelwein, 63-19 Senior Liz Fiser led the Comets in scoring with 13 points. Sophomore Lydia Staudt and senior Mackenzy Bilharz each added 12. Floyd County fish kill investigated

NEWS RELEASE CHARLES CITY—DNR specialists investigated a fish kill on a tributary of Flood Creek about four miles west of Charles City Wednesday. On-site field tests did not show elevated ammonia levels and live fish were seen along the affected two-mile stretch of stream, indicating the pollutant had moved downstream. “It’s really important for people to call DNR right away when they see dead fish,” said Rachel Glaza, DNR environmental specialist. “If we get there fast we can usually determine the cause. Rural Charles City house destroyed by fire

From the CHARLES CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT The Charles City Fire Department (CCFD) responded to a passerby report of a house fire Thursday afternoon around 12:10PM at 2455 Miner Ave., Southwest of Charles City. Upon arrival, smoke and fire was visible from the exterior of the home.  No one was home at the time of the fire, and it is likely that the fire had a significant head start prior to the passerby report to 911.  Two CCFD engines and a tanker responded to the fire.
