Celebrate Kenny Heitz’s 70th birthday

CHARLES CITY — The family of Kenny Heitz invites the community to celebrate his 70th birthday at the Charles City VFW from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, June 24. “We will be serving picnic food and the bar will be open for drinks to be purchased,” a flier posted by the family at Hy-Vee says. “No gifts please. Annual Cedar Dog Jog is June 10

CHARLES CITY — Run or walk June 10 to help homeless pets in the Charles City area. The annual PAWS Cedar Dog Jog returns at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10.  According to the registration website, the price to run or walk the 5K route that begins in Riverside Park is $30 for an adult and $20 for children 15 years old or younger. A family rate of $45 is also available. These rates include a T-shirt.  Participants can get a discounted price of $10 per adult and $5 per child if they decide to not get a T-shirt. CHARLES CITY — A special event at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, will celebrate the women’s suffrage movement, the enactment of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and recognize Carrie Lane Chapman Catt for her efforts in helping women gain the right to vote.  A flier from the 19th Amendment Society describes the event this way: “Join area students, the 19th Amendment Society, and Floyd County officials in recognizing the women’s suffrage movement and Carrie Lane Chapman Catt. CC Schools hosting night to connect students with spring and summer programs

The Charles City School District is inviting middle school students and their families to its first Community Connections Night from 5:30-7 p.m. at the middle school commons and gymnasium. It will feature many of the community’s organizations catering to spring and summer programs for students.  Organizations will share information about how middle school students can be involved in their programs. Many will have sign-ups available this night. This is a “fair style” event so come and go as you need. A free meal will be provided.
