April 19 event to celebrate success of the women’s suffrage movement and Carrie Lane Chapman Catt

CHARLES CITY — A special event at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, will celebrate the women’s suffrage movement, the enactment of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and recognize Carrie Lane Chapman Catt for her efforts in helping women gain the right to vote. 

A flier from the 19th Amendment Society describes the event this way: “Join area students, the 19th Amendment Society, and Floyd County officials in recognizing the women’s suffrage movement and Carrie Lane Chapman Catt. The program starts in the 3rd floor District Courtroom with a ‘Visit from Carrie,’ student presentations, and remarks from special guests and National 19th Amendment Society members. The event will move to the 2nd floor hallway where one-of-a-kind artwork will be hung on the wall adjacent to the Martin Luther King, Jr display. Enjoy refreshments and good conversation to wrap up the event.
