Home art tour being offered Sept. 24 in Charles City 

Charles City has become known for its wide variety of public art, especially in Central Park and along the riverfront. However, a vast number of art treasures reside with private collections in town as well. On Sunday, Sept. 24, five Charles City homes will be opening their homes for public viewing of their private collections. Artist assembling ‘Revival’ in Charles City’s Victory Park

CHARLES CITY — Of all the things artist David Williamson has done to the debris of Charles City’s iconic suspension bridge, he did not bend and twist heavy angle iron. That was done for him by the raging Cedar River in 2008. Williamson over the past week has been putting together the sculpture called “Revival” in Victory Park. $50K price tag for Arts Center steps project likely to rise

CHARLES CITY — The Indiana limestone steps were stacked out of the way on Jackson Street Tuesday morning as the crew from Renaissance Restoration assessed the job beneath the Charles City Arts Center’s front door. Bricks were easily plucked out of crumbling mortar in the  walls that held up the steps. CC Jazz groups close out their year in Central Park

CHARLES CITY — Jazz on the River became Jazz in Central Park this year as the amphitheater was damaged by floodwaters last year. The Charles City High School Jazz Ensemble and a group composed of middle and high school musicians performed Saturday, May 6, at the final jazz concert of the year. The playlist was extended by a few songs that the Jazz Ensemble prepared for the high school’s annual Ice Cream Social that was cancelled. Register for CC Shining Stars cheer, dance and stunt program by May 8

CHARLES CITY — A new season for the Charles City Shining Stars is right around the corner and registration is open. The Stars are children in grades 2-6. They learn cheer, dance and stunts from AACCA certified coach Marla Rima, who is also a high school cheer coach and a licensed teacher. “Team members will learn cheer, dance and stunt techniques,” Rima said in a flier distributed in March at the Charles City School District’s Community Connections Night. CHARLES CITY — Registration is open for two week-long workshops for area youth during the week of June 19. Charles Youth Theatre 2017 is for students entering grade 3 to grade 9. The workshops will be held daily June 19 through June 23 at the  Charles Theatre, 409 Main St., Charles City.
