A 2021 Nashua-Plainfield grad is part of a five-man squad out to prove it’s the U.S. Army’s best this week.
The U.S. Army Forces Command Best Squad Competition began at Fort Campbell, Ky., on Monday, Aug. 14. SPC. Chase Betsinger, the son of Lisa and SFC (retired) Doug Betsinger, is a member of the squad representing the Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC).
Betsinger is an all source intelligence analyst with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Space Battalion, Fort Carson.
In June, Betsinger won the SMDC’s Soldier of the Year award. He competed in a week of challenges at Peterson Space Force Base and Fort Carson to determine the command’s 2023 Best Warriors.
“The competition challenged us in ways we don’t get in our day-to-day jobs. It was a great way to see where I’m lacking and how I’m excelling,” Betsinger is quoted in a story on dvids.net. “I’m glad to have competed and fully appreciate the opportunity to move forward to the next level of the competition.”
Today, Betsinger is in the nationwide competition formerly known as the Best Warrior Competition. It is focused on team building, according to the Army’s website. Nine teams, are engaging in physical fitness events, marksmanship drills, medical tasks and written exams. Watch this report to learn more about the events.
In the end, the U.S. Army Best Squad of the Year, Noncommissioned Officer of the Year and Soldier of the Year will be awarded.
The other squads competing represent I Corps, III Armored Corps, XVIII Airborne Corps, 20th CBRNE Command, 32d Army Air and Missile Defense Command, U.S. Army Central, JRTC and Fort Johnson and National Training Center/Fort Irwin.
