Huskies advance to 2nd round of baseball playoffs

Dawson Glaser, pictured here at home earlier this season against North Butler, struck out 12 Central City batters Monday night in Winthrop.

Monday’s playoff game started with a shock to the system.

Central City, which won five games in the regular season jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning over 16-game winner Nashua-Plainfield. The Huskies answered back with only 2 runs in the bottom half.

Then, N-P starting pitcher Dawson Glaser reset and threw shutout baseball the rest of the way, leading the Huskies to a 6-3 victory at East Buchanan High School in the Class 1A Substate 3 District 5 first round. He finished with 12 strikeouts in seven innings, giving up one base on balls and eight hits.

Central City pitcher Jayden Hanson also pitched a full game. He struck out six batters, walked three and hit one, giving up 5 earned runs and one unearned.

The Huskies added 2 runs in both the second and fourth innings.

Offensively, Glaser and shortstop Bo Harrington led the Huskies with 2 runs batted in apiece. Glaser hit three singles in four at bats. Harrington was 2-for-4 with a single and a triple.

Catcher Tucker Franzen was 3-for-3 at the plate with two singles, a double and 1 RBI.

Second baseman Kendrick Huck and outfielder Kaden Wilken each had two hits. Three were singles and Wilken hit a double.

First baseman Landon Pratt hit a single.
