
Monday’s playoff game started with a shock to the system.
Central City, which won five games in the regular season jumped to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning over 16-game winner Nashua-Plainfield. The Huskies answered back with only 2 runs in the bottom half.
Then, N-P starting pitcher Dawson Glaser reset and threw shutout baseball the rest of the way, leading the Huskies to a 6-3 victory at East Buchanan High School in the Class 1A Substate 3 District 5 first round. He finished with 12 strikeouts in seven innings, giving up one base on balls and eight hits.
Central City pitcher Jayden Hanson also pitched a full game. He struck out six batters, walked three and hit one, giving up 5 earned runs and one unearned.
The Huskies added 2 runs in both the second and fourth innings.
Offensively, Glaser and shortstop Bo Harrington led the Huskies with 2 runs batted in apiece. Glaser hit three singles in four at bats. Harrington was 2-for-4 with a single and a triple.
Catcher Tucker Franzen was 3-for-3 at the plate with two singles, a double and 1 RBI.
Second baseman Kendrick Huck and outfielder Kaden Wilken each had two hits. Three were singles and Wilken hit a double.
First baseman Landon Pratt hit a single.
UP NEXT
N-P (17-7) will play East Buchanan (12-9) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, at North Linn High School in Troy Mills. The Buccaneers, playing at home, beat Edgewood-Colesburg, 9-5, on Monday.

- Harrington is the team leader in hits (36), singles (22), triples (4), stolen bases (17) and RBIs (30). Franzen is tied with him in doubles (9).
- Glaser, who is 7-1 as a pitcher this season leads the team in strikeouts (60). Harrington (3-3) is right behind him (52).
