SHEFFIELD — Nashua-Plainfield is back atop a wave.

A baseball season comes in waves, head coach Levi Miller told his team Friday night after the Huskies defeated West Fork 17-0 in five innings. Those waves came crashing down onto the Huskies twice this week. Kee High on Tuesday pounded the Huskies 11-1. On Thursday, Don Bosco beat them 15-0.

Those games were non-conference losses, however. Friday’s rout of the War Hawks (1-6, 2-9) puts the Huskies (7-1, 8-3) firmly in the race for the Top of Iowa-East title, just behind first-place Newman Catholic (7-0, 16-1). The Knights beat third-place Saint Ansgar (5-3, 11-5) on Friday by a 10-0 score.

Bo Harrington pitched five innings and struck out eight to record the win. The senior is 2-1 in three starts. He also was 3-for-3 batting including two doubles. He drove in 3 RBIs.

Altogether, six of N-P’s 14 hits were doubles and one left the park. Senior Dawson Glaser homered to straight-away center to drive.

N-P took a 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. Junior Tucker Franzen drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Senior Kendrick Huck hit a run-scoring double.

In the 2nd, freshman Eli Kalainoff hit a 1-run double. Then Harrington smashed a 2-run double. Glaser pushed across 1 more run with a single.

N-P added 7 runs in the third. Freshman Karson Chyma drove in the first run when he reached first base on an error. Kalainoff got an RBI off a fielder’s choice. Harrington hit a 1-run double, Glaser a 2-run home run and Kaden Wilken a 2-run double.

After a scoreless 4th, the Huskies reached 17 on a 3-run double by Chyma.
