Good morning, Oelwein. Here’s the local news report.

1. Weather — Today will be sunny, with a high near 65. Tonight will be a little less cool as the low will be around 42 under mostly clear skies. Friday will be sunny, with a high near 68. (Extended Forecast)

2. Coming up this weekend — On Saturday, pro wrestling will be part of O-Town Mania, the city of Hawkeye is having its Harvest Festival and Oran firefighters are serving up rib-eye steak. For details, click here.

3. Cancer fight fundraising — The Oelwein volleyball team’s 2022 Breast Cancer Awareness Night on Tuesday raised $2,120.49 to be donated to the Fayette County Relay for Life/American Cancer Society.

4. Sports

It’s Senior Night tonight at the Oelwein volleyball game. The Huskies (11-16) are hosting Valley Lutheran (0-4). Varsity game time is 7 p.m. This year’s seniors are Zoey Reisner, Emma Smock and Lily King..

The North Iowa Cedar League conference volleyball tournament starts Tuesday, Oct. 4. Wapsie Valley won the East Division regular season championship. Grundy Center won the West. Dike-New Hartford won the Central.

Oelwein boys cross country will travel to a 12-team Hampton-Dumont meet at Maynes Grove Park near Hampton for a 4:30 p.m. start. The boys team is ranked No. 3 in class 2A.

5. Neighbors complain about decaying downtown building: At Monday’s Oelwein City Council meeting, Mike Leo spoke during public comment about how 33 South Frederick Avenue is continuing to cause damage to his restaurant building next door according to unofficial minutes Now there is water in his building caused by the neighboring property not having a roof.
Paul Schemmel, owner of 25 South Frederick Avenue, said the building at 27 South Frederick Avenue has caused water to get into in his basement and a fallen pile of bricks are now in the narrow space between the buildings.
