Charles City High School bowlers are chasing state titles again. The tournament is Monday in Waterloo.
Both the girls and boys teams have qualified for the 2018 state tournament that this year will begin at 10 a.m. Feb. 19, at Cadillac Lanes. Fire destroyed Des Moines’ Plaza Lanes, which has been the tournament home.
Both Comet squads notched the second-highest total team scores for the Class 1A qualifiers. The boys put up a 3,151 pin total, just behind Knoxville’s 3,168. The Comet girls recorded 2,929, behind Louisa-Muscatine’s 3,128.
Individually, for the girls, seniors Macy Ross, and Arayah Nelson qualified. Ross qualified as an individual champion and Nelson earned at at-large spot. Ross had a qualifying two-game series of 473, second only to Louisa-Muscatine sophomore Whittney Morse’s 507. Nelson Qualified with a 432.
For the boys, sophomore Noah Reams and senior Kaleb Ross qualified as individual champions. They tied with total scores of 467.
According to the IGHSAU and the IHSAA’s Feb. 14 memo to qualifying schools:
- The class 1A state tournament will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 19, at the Cadillac Lanes, 650 LaPorte Road, Waterloo, with the Parade of Bowlers and the national anthem. Competition will begin at about 10:20 a.m. Doors will open for spectators at 9 a.m.
- Admission for the tournament is $10 per person. Spectator entrances will be at the east sides of the building. One entrance will be designated for spectators who have purchased tickets prior to the event. The second entrance will be designated for spectators wishing to purchase tickets at the door. Parking is available to the west of the building with the majority of parking behind the building and to the east.
- Fans have the ability to purchase tickets in advance and online with GoFan Digital Huddle Tickets for all three days of the State Bowling Meet. By ordering tickets online, your state bowling tickets are delivered to your mobile device and validated onsite at the Cadillac Lanes site. DO NOT VALIDATE OR REDEEM YOUR TICKETS PRIOR TO THE STATE MEET. State Bowling tickets will be validated beginning at 9 a.m. each day. There will be a specific entrance for fans that purchase State Bowling Tickets online. Fans may purchase up to eight tickets on their mobile device. Tickets for each session are $10, plus a $1.50 handling fee.
