The Charles City High School bowling team is back in action Friday, Jan. 5, when they travel to Decorah. They’ll get started at 4 p.m. at Oneota Lanes, 400 Heivly St. Decorah.The Vikings girls team is 3-2 with a match score average of 1,963.8.The Comet girls are 4-0 with an average of 2,692.5.The Decorah boys are 5-0 with a match score average of 2,938.4.The Comet boys are 4-0 with an average of 2,878.5.Of high school girls bowling teams with at least four matches in, Charles City has the fifth best match average in Iowa. Cedar Rapids-Prairie leads the state at 3,073 over its first five matches, followed by four teams with four matches so far. Muscatine has an average of 2,970.5, followed by LeMars at 2,702.2, Ottumwa at 2,700.8, and Charles City at 2,692.5.One girl in the state has thrown a 300 game so far, Mikayla Hite of Prairie, Cedar Rapids.Charles City seniors Fayln Knecht with a 239 and Macy Ross with a 235 lead their team.The Charles City boys’ match score average of 2,878.5 is behind 22 other teams in the state.Marshalltown has the best average in the state at 3,265.8. They are undefeated in seven matches.Two boys in the state have rolled 300 games this season: Marshalltown’s Lucas Kramer and Des Moines-East’s Dylan McFarland.Charles City’s highest individual score is 256. Seniors Kaleb Ross and Hunter Brockney each notched that total.
