Charles City School Board approves Thomson option for North Grand building

CHARLES CITY -— Charley Thomson and his partners are now the proud owners of an option to purchase the historic building that had been home to the Charles City Middle School until last year. The Charles City School Board approved the agreement by a 4-1 vote Monday night. Jim Frisbie cast the lone nay vote. The board tabled a discussion about a city of Charles City proposal to work with a “PlaceMaker” to come up with a new repurposing plan for the North Grand building. Eighth-graders reconnect community with cemetery

CHARLES CITY — The incoming freshman class at Charles City High school will bring with it a resume like none before. For one thing, they reconnected a community to its cemetery. Many of the eighth graders’ efforts were on display Friday at a community open house at Riverside Cemetery: A drama troupe of eighth graders performed its short play about James Cullen’s death, the last lynching in Iowa, seven times in the cemetery chapel. CC Police investigate social media post reported by CCMS parent

CHARLES CITY — A 15-year-old boy was taken into custody Wednesday after allegedly making a threatening post against the Charles City Middle School. The school district sent an email to the community at 1:20 p.m. explaining that this morning a Charles City Middle School parent reported the “inappropriate social media post” to Charles City School District administration. “After reviewing the post, the District contacted the Charles City Police Department for assistance.
