CHARLES CITY — A special event at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, will celebrate the women’s suffrage movement, the enactment of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, and recognize Carrie Lane Chapman Catt for her efforts in helping women gain the right to vote.  A flier from the 19th Amendment Society describes the event this way: “Join area students, the 19th Amendment Society, and Floyd County officials in recognizing the women’s suffrage movement and Carrie Lane Chapman Catt.
