WF gives N-P a scare, but Huskies win at home

West Fork batters took what Nashua-Plainfield pitchers gave up and erased a 5-run deficit over the 4th and 5th innings Wednesday at Stan Burkle Field. The Huskies came to the plate in the bottom of the 6th tied 9-9. N-P rebuilt a 2-run cushion when Wyatt Bouillon hit a run-scoring double and then scored on a line drive by Landon Pratt. Eli Kalainoff, pitching in relief, shut down West Fork in the 7th to get the 11-9 win. This story will be updated when statistics are available. DNR issues air quality advisory through Wednesday

IOWA DNR NEWS RELEASE DES MOINES — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has issued an air quality advisory for the entire state with the worst air quality expected in the eastern third of Iowa. Eastern Iowa is currently recording fine particulates at concentrations the EPA considers unhealthy. At this level sensitive groups of people, as well as the general public, may experience health effects. Fine particulate levels near or above EPA health standards are expected to increase throughout the day and persist in these areas through tomorrow. UPDATED: Water Over the Dam Days parade postponed until noon, rain falls on drought-stricken county

Technically, you can call rain water that’s over the dam. However, while Water Over the Dam Days is good for a parade, that water is not. The WODD parade today has been postponed until noon because of the wind and the rain passing through. The rain is welcome, though. Chickasaw is experiencing severe drought, according to the US Drought Monitor. The scale has two more steps above that level: extreme and exceptional. Nashua-Plainfield’s knack for getting out of jams seemed to be expiring. The Huskies entered the top of the 7th at Stan Burkle Field Tuesday evening with a 4-0 lead. Reliever Nic Brase returned to the mound after extinguishing a Falcon threat in the 6th, preserving starter Eli Kalainoff’s shutout. After getting the lead-off batter to fly out to left, everything went awry. ROCKFORD — Eli Kalainoff wasted no time. In Monday’s first at bat, he planted a home run ball in the corn behind Rockford’s left field fence. An inning later, the freshman did it again, this time adding 2 runs to Nashua-Plainfield’s burgeoning box score. State aims to civilly commit sex offender

The state hopes to extend the incarceration of a former Dunkerton man serving prison time after being convicted in 2018 of sex crimes in Howard and Chickasaw Counties. Taylor William Jurgensen, 23, was scheduled for release on May 19 from the Newton Correctional Facility. On May 16, Chickasaw County District Judge Alan Heavans ruled that there is probable cause to believe Jurgensen is a sexually violent predator. He was ordered held in a state facility capabled of evaluating him prior to trial.
