Nashua City Council to meet Monday
The Nashua City Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, in the Council Chambers at City Hall. Aside from financials and minutes, the consent agenda includes: In other action, the Council plans to: Topics in the Park Board monthly report will include a trees grant, Water Over the Dam Days 2.0 and band shell rentals. N-P grad competes in Best Squad Competition
A 2021 Nashua-Plainfield grad is part of a five-man squad out to prove it’s the U.S. Army’s best this week. The U.S. Army Forces Command Best Squad Competition began at Fort Campbell, Ky., on Monday, Aug. 14. SPC. Chase Betsinger, the son of Lisa and SFC (retired) Doug Betsinger, is a member of the squad representing the Army Space and Missile Defense Command (SMDC). Betsinger is an all source intelligence analyst with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st Space Battalion, Fort Carson. In June, Betsinger won the SMDC’s Soldier of the Year award. Livingston wins awards at State Fair
A Nashua resident has won awards for her creative arts at the Iow State Fair this week Jackie Livingston took first in Individual Machine Appliqué in Fabric and Threads-Quilting, second in Card-Any Occassion in Paper Craft, third in Metal/Wire Work in Basketry, and third in Technique Not Mentioned in Tole and Decorative Painting. Big 4 Fair coming up Aug. 31-Sept. 4
The Big 4 Fair returns at the end of the month, along with Turn and Burn Races. The fair will run Aug. 31-Sept. 4 in Nashua with entertainment lined up every day plus various food and merchandise vendors and exhibits of animals, tractors, and home goods, according to its web page Big4fair.net. The Big 4 Fair Board hosted its first Turn and Burn Races in July and decided to bring the event back over the Labor Day weekend. Xylophones can be creepy. Two of them set up Wednesday morning behind Nashua-Plainfield Elementary School. When they started playing, they resurrected a 1980s nightmare. Ten staccato chimes — over and over — as teenagers walked with careful, smooth steps — sweat beads forming on foreheads — turning corners that are were not there. Bewitched. One man loomed over it all, smacking a wood block with a drum stick. They were going perform one more time, said N-P band director Scott Stroud. “And then we’ll get ice cream,” he said.
