
Two people were hospitalized this morning (Dec. 5) after the pickup they were in crashed head-on with a semitrailer just northeast of Sumner.
At 10:11 a.m. the Fayette County dispatch took a 911 call of a two-vehicle accident on County Road V-68 between 170th and 165th Streets.
A 2016 Chevrolet pickup had lost control on the icy roadway, crossed the center line and was hit head-on by a semitrailer traveling south, responding deputies and the Iowa State Patrol discovered, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
The two occupants in the pickup were transported by Sumner Emergency Medical Services to Sumner Hospital with serious injuries, the driver of the semitrailer was uninjured.
The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash and names are not being released at this time until the investigation is completed and the status of the injured are known, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Sumner Fire and the Iowa Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement also assisted at the scene.
