SPORTS: HUSKIES BOWLING WINS

The Oelwein boys bowling team opened its season with a win on Tuesday at the Super Bowl in Forest City. The Huskies defeated the Forest City Indians 2,632 to 2,571. Senior Austin Espe lead the Huskies with 460 pins. He rolled the high game of 258.

GOV’T: SCHOOLS TO PAY EMPLOYEE RETENTION BONUSES

School Board on Monday approved one-time employee retention incentive payments using federal Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief funding. The individual payments ranging between $500 and $1,500 will made according to length of service and job classification and will be paid in early December.

The recent Arresting Hunger and Putting Out Hunger food drives brought in more than 5,186 food items for the Oelwein Kitchen Cupboard $2,264.
The Oelwein Fire Department spent its day “Putting Out Hunger” at the Oelwein Dollar Fresh and received 396 food item donations and $539 in cash donations.
The Oelwein Police Department spent their day “Arresting Hunger” at the Fareway Meat & Grocery and received 4,790 food item donations and $1,725 in cash donations.
