Sarah Putney passes at age 74

CHARLES CITY — Sarah Putney, 74, of Charles City, formerly Des Moines, passed away, Monday, May 8, 2017 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral service for Sarah Putney will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2017 at Hauser Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Phillips from Gospel Lighthouse Church in Floyd officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.
Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017 and will continue one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Friday.
Sarah Jane (Carter) Putney, the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth (Meeker) Carter, was born December 22, 1942 in Iowa City, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Glen Putney on November 26, 1960. This union was blessed with five children.
Sarah worked at Sherman Nursery, RJC Corporation and at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines for 24 years. She enjoyed playing Bingo, going to casinos, embroidery and making quilts. Sarah loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Living family members include her husband, Glen of Charles City; five children: Dan (Trish) Putney of Polk City, Denise Thomas of Charles City, Eddie (Terri) Putney of Charles City, Glenda (Kevin) Greene of Salem, Oregon and Robert (Heather) Putney of Marble Rock; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Billy (Jean) Carter; two sisters: Kathern Garringer and Rose (Don) Reich; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws, Herman and Clara Putney; granddaughter; and two brothers: Lawrence and Wesley Carter.
