CHARLES CITY — A new general surgeon at Floyd County Medical Center will begin seeing patients on Monday, May 1, according to a mailing sent out from the hospital.
It says Dr. Angela Van Gilder is joining the Charles City-based hospital’s department of surgery. A native of Des Moines, she has been practicing general surgery at Banner Gateway Hospital in Gilbert, Ariz., since 2014.
Her clinical specialties and educational preparations include:
- General surgical procedures for all age groups
- Gastroenterology procedures
- Esophageal surgery
- Hernia repair
- Upper and lower endoscopy
- Laparoscopic (minimally invasive) procedures
- Thyroid procedures
- C-sections and obstetrical
- Breast biopsies
- Sterilization procedures
Van Gilder graduated from the University of Iowa with honors and then received her doctor of osteopathic medicine from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale, Ariz. She completed her surgical residency at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix in 2014.
She is certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Van Gilder is married to her high school sweetheart and has two young children. They will make their home in Charles City.
When she’s not working she enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.
The surgical team at FCMC includes a general surgeon, an orthopedic surgeon and several specialty surgeons, along with certified registered nurse anesthetists, seven registered nurses, one licensed practical nurse and one certified medical assistant, the mailing said.
