CHARLES CITY — Monday, March 20, is the day to voice concerns about the proposed 2017-18 school calendar. The Charles City School Board will have public hearing at its regular meeting that begins at 6:30 p.m. in the 7th grade learning studio of the new middle school.
A major change in the calendar is the elimination of the hour late start on Wednesdays that was being used for staff collaboration and development. Changes in which grades populate each of the district’s buildings — pre-kindergarten to 2nd grade at Washington Elementary, grades 3-5 at Lincoln Elementary School, grades 6-8 at the middle school and 9-12 at the high school — have lessened the need for the Wednesday delay, according t0 Superintendent Dr. Dan Cox said the
The proposed calendar includes five full days of professional learning throughout the school year in lieu of late starts on Wednesdays. Students have those days off.
The board is scheduled to vote on the calendar after the hearing.
