Nashua-Plainfield educator named Iowa History Teacher of the Year

Courtesy of the Iowa Department of Education: Monday, August 15, 2022 Suzan Turner, a social studies teacher at Nashua-Plainfield High School, has been named the 2022 Iowa History Teacher of the Year. Turner, who has taught in the Nashua-Plainfield Community School District for 18 years, received the award through the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History, following a recommendation from an Iowa Department of Education committee. James Grob, newspaperman and playwright, dies at 54

Contributed Obituary CHARLES CITY — James Gaven Grob died on July 5, 2022, after five years of battling cancer. He was 54 years old. He passed away peacefully at Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City with his wife Michelle by his side. He was born on March 1, 1968, in Winona, MN and grew up in Oelwein. He was an athlete and part of the 1985 All-Conference Northeast Iowa Conference football team. He also participated in drama and speech. To the Editor, As a lawmaker from Cerro Gordo county, I often read newspapers from different parts of North Iowa just to see what’s happening and see what folks are talking about. The one message I’ve heard consistently from Iowans this session is that they’re sick and tired of politics. Charles City school district lifts face covering mandate

News release from Charles City Community Schools FACE COVERING UPDATE  Thursday, 2/3/22 – 3:20 pm We have good news to share with our school family regarding the current illness rate in the Charles City Community Schools. Channel Catfish – Excellent: Shore anglers using dead chubs or worms on the bottom have been successful. Walleye – Fair: Walleyes are starting to move. Fish the shallow pools for best luck.
