The dangerous heat and humidity persist across the region into Thursday. Take precautions to protect yourself, family and pets from the extreme heat. Relief comes this weekend with much cooler and less humid air. Highs for Saturday and Sunday will drop back into the upper 70s to around 80. – NWS

Today — Sunny and hot, with a high near 96. Heat index values as high as 106. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph becoming northwest in the morning.

Tonight — Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. North wind 6 to 10 mph becoming east after midnight.

Friday — A 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 89. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon.

Cross Country meet canceled

A cross country meet being hosted by Charles City at Wildwood Golf Course for today has been canceled because of dangerous temperatures.

Golf carts allowed on CC streets

Charles City’s new ordinance allowing golf carts to operate on city streets, will go into effect Friday, Aug. 25, according to the Police Department. Read more …
