Weekend storm dropped up to 17 inches of snow

Nora Springs found itself digging out from 17 inches of snow over the weekend. Rockford had 16, while Charles City received 14. The snowstorm that began Friday evening, March 23, and finished Saturday, March 24, blanketed the region with up to 17 inches, according to a National Weather Service. Weather to cool a bit today; snow possible

As Midwesterners, the blessing of beautiful weather compounds our suspicion something bad is going to happen. It’s like when the Vikings are an inch away from the goal line and it’s only first down. Water Summary Update shows no drought in Iowa thanks to cool, wet April

From the Iowa DNR DES MOINES— For the first time in almost a year, none of Iowa is shown in any form of drought or dryness in the latest Water Summary Update.  Conditions in Iowa continue to improve, especially in the areas of southeast Iowa that had been dry over the winter. Thanks to a wet and cool April, there are no drought designations in the state and shallow groundwater is now rated as normal to above normal across the state. Morning report, April 11: New CC school building done under budget, district preps for high school project

CHARLES CITY — Construction of the new Charles City Middle School along with its parking lot and Comet Drive came in a $112,436 under budget, the School Board heard in a report at it’s meeting Monday night. As nice as the weather was today in the Charles City area, the high temperature of 61 did not break the record set in 1918 of 73 degrees. It was also the first day of spring.
